Since early childhood, I am a firm believer of interdependence. I have always felt autonomous and yet at the same time felt reliant on and responsible towards other people, animals and the planet.
Almost 40 years later, now that society is seriously confused and troubled, I even believe it to be the best possible solution to our global problems. When every one is given the opportunity to live in accordance with the concept of Interdependence, our mutual wellbeing will be greatly enhanced.
Interdependence = Autonomy + Responsibility
Autonomy = education + free will
In order to be able to act in accordance with the concept of interdependency, one should be put in the position of autonomy. This is the capacity of a rational individual to make an informed, un-coerced decision. This requires education / information and free will. This is why I strongly believe in education on the one hand and human rights (securing free will) on the other hand.
Responsibility = a natural counterbalance to human rights.
When put in the position of autonomy, one is able to act responsibly and can be held accountable when acting irresponsibly (meaning: not in accordance with the established human rights). Human rights include the right to food and water and thus acts against the interests of the planet as a whole are also considered irresponsible in this concept.
